Who's Who At Nanuet EMS

This section is to recognize those members who have gone above and beyond the average volunteer at Nanuet Community Ambulance.  This section acknowledges members who have received the John Fioravanti Memorial Award, the Corps. Person award, and those members who have obtained Life-Membership Status.  This section will conclude with a memorial to our members who have unfortunately left this world. 

The John Fioravanti Memorial Service Award 

John became a member of the Nanuet Community Volunteer Ambulance Corps, in the late 80’s.  At that time, he had a full time job with Consolidated Edison, based in the Bronx and commuted back and forth every day.

Aside from his regular duties at Con-Ed, he was a Field Crew Chief, Safety Officer & CPR Instructor for them.  He was also part owner of the Getty gas station & Mini-Mart on Pascack Road and Old Nyack Turnpike.  Needless to say, he was quite busy, yet found time to serve his community, as a Volunteer for the Ambulance Corps.

He was very active at the Corps, but was never able to take the EMT course.  As a result, he wasn’t eligible to become a Full Member.  However, this never stopped him from giving his “All” to the Corps.  He put in more time on the schedule and at Corps functions, than many Full Members combined.

When John passed away in September 1992, every Ambulance Corps, Police and Fire Department in Clarkstown, Orangetown & Ramapo was represented at his Wake and Funeral Procession.

In 1993, the Membership voted to honor his memory, by creating a Service Award that is given to a Non-Full Member, who displays his Selflessness and Dedication.

Most of the recipients of the “Fio” Award, have gone on to receive the Corps highest award, Corps Person of the Year.  They continue to honor his memory, with their Service and Dedication to both our Corps and Community.

The Corps. Person Award is awarded annually to a member who has gone above and beyond.  This is the highest award bestowed upon a member.  It can be awarded to a member who has ridden the most, assisted in new policies, assisted with obtaining our new building, stepped into an officers’ role unexpectedly, or just made Nanuet Community Ambulance extremely proud.  This award is usually given to just one member a year, but in 1995 it was a tough decision, and two people were acknowledge.

Life-Membership is a membership status conferred upon an active member of at least seven years of honorable service, or to such a member who’s outstanding nature that such membership is deemed in the best interests of the Corps.  Life membership must be recommended by at least three duly elected officers of the Corps., and subject to the approval of the active membership.
