On Friday, December 6th, just before noon, Nanuet Community Ambulance was alerted to a train incident involving a tractor trailer in West Nyack, just off of Western Highway. The vehicles were both reported to be on fire and an unknown amount of injuries at initial dispatch.

Immediately, 22B3 and 22B4 went into service responding directly to the scene. South Orangetown Ambulance was alerted for mutual aid and to assist with potential victims. Officers of the Nanuet Ambulance Corps also quickly began plans for extended scene time and coordinated with the command post. Once on scene, with Rockland Paramedics, crews were alerted to the driver of truck who was in critical condition and transported him to a local hospital. Fortunately, he was the only person requiring emergency medical care.

Crew members remained on post throughout the day, until about 6 PM. They formed a "standby," where they were ready at any moment to assist any of the investigating agencies and firefighters with any injuries. It was important to be ever-ready, as the HazMat teams had to empty fuel-containing train cars and the tracks were on embankments. With so many people and inclimate weather, crews felt it was necessary to be close at hand until all agencies cleared the scene.
