| On the evening of July 4th, 2012, around 5 PM, Nanuet Community Ambulance was alerted to a one-car rollover on the Palisades Interstate Parkway northbound between exits 10 & 11 where Nanuet borders New City. The State Trooper on scene alerted dispatch that there were multiple victims, and that numerous ambulances and a helicopter would be needed.
Nanuet promptly responded with three ambulances, Spring Hill & New City EMS with one rig each, Rockland Paramedics, and a Rockland Mobile Care Advanced Life Support truck responded to the scene. New City Fire Department was also on scene for extrication and to set up a landing zone. Life Net responded minutes later with a medevac helicopter. Five of the patients were transported by ground ambulance to Nyack Hospital and Westchester Medical Center, and one was airlifted by medevac to Westchester Medical Center - the area's only Level 1 Trauma Center.
The parkway was closed for about 45 minutes, and traffic backed up to exit 6 in Orangeburg. |
