On the morning of Sunday, February 5th, 2012, Nanuet Community Ambulance volunteers, responded to a serious vehicle collision on the Palisades Interstate Parkway northbound between exits 9 (New York State Thruway) and 10 (New City) at about 8 AM. Fortunately, the emergency dispatch system was put in place early, as a local volunteer firefighter was nearby.

As soon as emergency volunteers from the Nanuet Community Ambulance and Nanuet Fire Department were on scene, they coordinated efforts to extricate the patient as safely as possible. Paramedics from Rockland Paramedics were also on scene. The medical personnel worked directly with the patient, while the fire department cut the car away, including the dashboard that was trapping the victim. The EMTs and Paramedics felt the patient was very critical, and called for a medevac, LifeNet of NY to fly the patient to Westchester Medical Center - the area's only Level I Trauma Center. New City Fire Department responded to set up a landing zone on the highway.

Due to the accident, the Palisades Interstate Parkway was closed for about an hour and a half.
