| On Friday, January 20th, members of the Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps convened for a Winter Gathering at the Pearl River Elks Club in Nanuet. Due to time constraints from finalizing the aspects of the new building, moving in, and getting everything situated to it's optimal place, members hadn't convened for an awards ceremony since 2010, when awards for the 2009 calendar year were distributed. The members, both current and past decided to have a function to acknowledge milestones for 2010's calendar year prior to their 70th anniversary dinner later in the year. The evening started with the Pledge of Allegience led by Youth Corps. member Eric Stone. The National Anthem was sang by long-time paid member Brandon Smith, and the Corps. Prayer was recited by President Barbara Wallenstein. Administrative and operational officers for 2010 and 2011 were recognized and thanked. Past Captains, Joseph Weber & Jonathan Korabel received special thank you plaques. Lieutenant of Schedule, Jonathan Delgado was recognized as the Corps.' 2010 Corps. Person of the Year, the most prestigious award to be received by a Corps. Member. Justin Saffar was honored with the John Fioravanti Memorial Award, which was named after an especially dedicated volunteer, who unfortunately passed away before he was able to become a full-member. Justin is always going above and beyond the typical volunteer. Justin, is also not yet a full-member, as the award is only distributed members prior to achieving full status. Long-time member, Joe Guadalupe, as in years past spoke about John Fioravanti before revealing the recipient. Crews who responded to cardiac arrest calls, where patients had no pulse, respirations, or any signs of life and successfully revived them with cardiopulmonary resuscitation before arriving to the Emergency Department were also put in the spotlight, and received certificates. These crews were Anthony Dapolito and Justin Saffar, Mike Will and Robert Little, Christina Glennon, Jonathan Delgado, and Kim Mitts, and Jonathan Delgado with Christopher Dunlavey. There were also certificates awarded to a crew who had reversed a potentially fatal allergic reaction utilizing an Epi-Pen. These crewmembers were Bruce Bannerman, Danielle Malka, and Pearse Matthews. Finally, anniversaries with the Corps. were acknowledged. Daniel Campbell, Alana Wind, and Marc Habif have been members for five years, Thomas Dunlavey Jr. has been for ten years, and Thomas Zoda for twenty-five years. A special thank you to Jonathan Delgado and Kyle McKiernan for planning a wonderful night, the Pearl River Elks Club for their hall and catering, and Express DJ for music and photography. |
