| On Thursday, December 29th, the Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps. hosted a community blood drive for the New York Blood Center. Lieutenant Grehl organized the event, which provided over 29 units of blood to be used for patients all over the Hudson Valley, including those fighting cancer, victims of accidents, severe traumas & burns, and patients undergoing surgery, or requiring a transplant. New born babies are also among blood recipients. Almost anyone can donate between the ages of 17 and 75 (16 with a parent's permission). Donors answered a brief questionnaire prior to donating to ensure that they were eligible to donate, as some medications and medical conditions make it unsafe for the donor. Each donation took about 15 minutes. All of the blood will be tested prior to administering to a recipient to protect them & prevent the spread of an infectious disease. Nearly every pint of blood donated is used, and is always in demand. We thank everyone who stopped by to donate today, and we hope that you will donate next time as well! |
