Driver Robbed At Gunpoint In Nanuet

A woman driving in Nanuet Thursday was robbed at gunpoint after her car was rear-ended on Lawrence Street, according to Clarkstown police.

The woman was not injured, but her pocketbook containing cash and jewelry was stolen during the 1:45 p.m. incident, police said.

The robbery took place after a car believed to be a silver Toyota SUV - possibly a 4Runner - hit the woman's car. Police said the woman got out of the car to check for possible damage when a man with a black handgun came from the other car. Police said the armed man grabbed the pocketbook from a front seat of the victim's car.

The silver SUV, with two men in it, fled eastbound on Lawrence Street, police said. The robbery sparked a search throughout Clarkstown for SUV, which police suspect may have front-end damage.

As of Thursday evening, police had not yet found the SUV and Clarkstown detectives were investigating the robbery.

Police ask that anyone with information related to the robbery call them at 845-639-5800.
