On Saturday, July 1st, 2017 shortly after 8 pm, while our primary crew was on another emergency call, additional ambulances from Nanuet EMS were requested to respond to the Palisades Interstate Parkway near Exit 8W for a motor vehicle accident. Several volunteer members including Captain Jonathan Delgado (Nanuet-3) responded to the scene. Upon signing in service, Captain Delgado was notified by Clarkstown EMS Dispatch that there were two vehicles involved and multiple patients. Captain Delgado decided that since there were multiple patients involved, he would respond directly to the scene and establish Incident Command. In the meantime, Assistant Chief Erich Rechenberger Jr. (Nanuet-2), Lieutenant Eric Roemish (Nanuet-5), Emergency Medical Technician Katie Mitts (Nanuet-41), and Emergency Vehicle Operator Tom Zoda (Nanuet-17) responded to the Nanuet EMS Station to bring additional ambulances to the scene. Once on scene, Incident Command was established, the vehicles were deemed safe to operate with by the Fire Department, and traffic control measures such as flares and roadblocks were set up by the State Police, the EMS crews began to evaluate the patients. Several patients were transported to local hospitals and all EMS units returned to service shortly thereafter.
